The Importance of Listening

Have you ever heard a quote or a piece of advice and just thought, “Wow! This is pure gold!” Well, Biz-Knows fall right into this category and they are what I like to call “golden nuggets” of business wisdom here for the taking!

Our very first piece of wisdom comes straight from the famous classic by Dale Carnegie, How to Win Friends and Influence People. In his book he talks about the importance of listening and what it means to really LISTEN to somebody.

True listening means giving the person your full attention and making a conscious effort to show that you’re genuinely interested in learning about everything they have to say. Do not be tempted to interrupt them, and most importantly, do not allow yourself to be distracted during their time of sharing.

Now you may wonder why listening would be such a big part in business when all you can think about as a new business owner is YOUR story and YOUR experiences… Well, you’ve heard it before and I’ll say it again – network, network, network!

In order to build your brand and grow your business you need other people to help you along the way. This is where the “listening” comes into play – to be an effective networker you need to build meaningful relationships to support you in your own path to success.

So next time you meet someone who can really be beneficial to not only your business but your life as a whole, try to be a good listener and encourage them to talk – especially about themselves!

I trust that you’ve found inspirational wisdom behind this golden nugget called “listening”. Now I’m sure there are many of you who have your own stories about your path to becoming a better listener. I’d love to hear from you and look forward to reading your comments!
